Closing for Renovations & Reopening Celebration

It is time for a change. We are closing from August 23-September 7, for a total make over.  The painters will be in during the first week splashing a delight of  new color on the walls and I will be in the following week to re-organize and redecorate. It will be a whole new look and feel for our precious Yoga home.

Please join me, Srinivas Reddy and friends as we celebrate our grand reopening on Friday September 3, at 7:00pm . This will be an evening with refreshments and Classical Indian music performed on Sitar (see photo on left) and Tabla (small hand drums).

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the enchanting quality of this music while exploring our renovated space and mingling with the Yoga community at One.

About Srinivas Reddy

Srinivas began his musical training as a guitarist and composer.  At an early age he performed and recorded with several jazz and rock bands throughout the New England area.  In 1998 he graduated from Brown University with a BA in South Asian Studies and completed his senior project entitled NaadaSat, a multi-instrumental ensemble piece that reflected his growing interest in South Asian philosophy and music.

Upon moving to San Francisco in 1998 Srinivas had a life-changing experience when he met his guru and mentor Sri Partha Chatterjee, a direct disciple of the late sitar maestro Pandit Nikhil Banerjee.  Since then Srinivas has dedicated himself to Indian classical music and rigorously trained with his teacher in the traditional guru-shishya style.  Under the strict guidance of his guru he continues to imbibe and practice the subtleties of the Hindustani musical tradition.

Srinivas is a professional concert sitarist and has given numerous recitals in the US and India.  He has three albums to his credit: GITA (1999), Sitar & Tabla (2001) and Hemant & Jog (2008).  Srinivas is also an experienced teacher and educator.  His continued interest in Indian literature and culture inspired him to complete an MA in South Asian Studies from UC Berkeley where he taught several courses on South Asian literature and music.

After nine years of study and performance in the San Francisco Bay Area, Srinivas has recently relocated to New England where he plans to establish a foundation for South Asian music and literature.  He is currently a visiting lecturer in the Center for Indic Studies at UMass Dartmouth.  Srinivas is also working on a translation of the Telugu epic Amuktamalyada for Penguin Books.

There is no fee for this event but donations are highly encouraged.  All proceeds will go directly to the musicians.

Yoga off the mat – Yoga as a life practice 10/1

Join ellen for tea & explore Yoga as a life practice

Our Yoga practice can be our best friend and teacher.  We need only to pay close attention and become truly honest with ourselves.  As we open and become willing to apply the principles of practice to our daily lives, every moment is opportunity for awakening and miracles seem to reside in ordinary  places. One of my teachers, Adayashanti, says “people are seeking miracles outside of themselves failing to realize that they are living in one”. Please join me as we explore questions and ideas about living in alignment with our true nature.  These sessions will begin with ellen speaking about a particular topic and then you will be invited to ask questions and participate in a conversation about the topics being explored.

Friday, October 1 7-8:30pm
